On 10th December morning, the conference began with the keynote address by Dr. A.K. Mukherjee, Director General, Indian Spinal Injury Centre, New Delhi. In his keynote Address, Dr. A.K. Mukherjee focused on the changes at the global and the national level in the general quality of life and disability. He discussed the aspects of the misery triangle – poverty, disease and disability in developing countries. He highlighted the statistics related to the prevalence and factors contributing to disability and the various intervention programs available across the country. He impressed upon the need to develop measures to prevent, alleviate and remediation of the problems prevailing at every level of the community.
